TP-Link TL-WA901ND Advanced 300Mbps Wireless N Access Point.

Wireless N whatsamygig? Who better to describe what this gizmo does than the manufacturer – “The TP-LINK Wireless N Access Point is designed to establish or expand a scalable high-speed wireless N network or to connect multiple Ethernet enabled devices such as game consoles, digital media adapters, printers, or network attached storage devices to a wireless network. The AP supports a host of different functions that makes your wireless networking experience more flexible than ever before. Now, you can enjoy a better Internet experience when downloading, gaming, video streaming or with any other application that you may wish to use.” So basically, you can either extend or create a wireless N network for all your existing wireless devices.

But why should you want to do this in the first place? After all, my internet provider has given me a perfectly adequate wireless router through which I can use my wireless devices. But what if you want to stream movies, extend your wireless network range, have other devices in your home that interfere with your wireless signal or have a router with no wireless function? If you can answer yes to any of the above you need a TP-LINK Wireless N Access Point – but please note, this does not replace your standard router/wireless router – but works alongside it.

So why is a Wireless N device better, and how can I tell if I already have one? Well, chances are if you have two or more aerials on your router then it is Wireless N, although it is worth checking by looking up the model number on the internet. Wireless N (802.11n) provides far superior range and better interference suppression than conventional 802.11g devices, particularly in a steel and concrete building. This means you´ll pick up your wireless network in places and at distances a standard network won´t reach or will be too weak – this device typically gives a 300 metre range.

Another major advantage over a standard 802.11g device is security and support for QSS – One Button Setup Security (WPS Compatible). Quick Security Setup allows users to connect their wireless device by pressing the “QSS” button which automatically establishes a secure connection. This is faster and more secure than conventional WEP security, and also means there is no need to remember passwords.

The TP-Link TL-WA901ND also features WPA/WPA2 encryption for the security of WI-FI connections. Traditional WEP encryption is no longer the strongest and safest method for securing the connection, the TL-WR901ND provides WPA/WPA2 encryptions that offer higher levels of protection from external access to your wireless network.

Verdict

If you have modern laptops/tablet PCs/games consoles that support the faster 802.11n wireless protocol then the TP-Link TL-WA901ND Wireless N access point can help you extend your range, speed of connection and security of your wireless network compared with a conventional 802.11g wireless network.
